The Wise Man and his Cake
Once upon a time the Wise Man of Ireland was on his travels.
It was a beautiful morning. He enjoyed the birdsong and the sun. "I have travelled for many hours. I need some rest now," he thought and sat down. Then he felt that he was hungry. He remembered that he had a cake in his pocket. He took it out and unwrapped it. The cake looked delicious.
Just as he was about to take a large bite, he saw a group of people coming along the road. They all had shopping bags and they looked very tired. The Wise Man of Ireland felt sorry for them, so he held out his piece of cake. "Would you like to share my cake?" he asked.

The group of people were a bearded man and his six children, three sons and three daughters.
They stopped, looked at the cake, and nodded. "We have walked a long way and we are really hungry by now," added the man.
So the Wise Man divided his cake into eight pieces, and handed seven of the pieces over to the family.
"I'm sorry it is so little," said the Wise Man.
"A gift is never too small," replied the man, as he took a piece of the Wise Man's cake.
The children also took a piece each, and ate it. The Wise Man only had a small bit left for himself, and soon it was gone.

"Now we have eaten your cake. What shall we do with the food that we have brought with us? My wife packed it for our trip to market." They all had a packet of food in their shopping bags. But they didn't feel hungry after eating the Wise Man's cake.
"Maybe you would like to share our food with us now," said the bearded man. The Wise Man
was still hungry and he agreed happily. So each one of them divided their packet of food into half, and handed it over to the Wise Man. The Wise Man was surprised to see how much food they gave to him. The six children and the bearded man waved goodbye to the Wise Man and continued their trip to market.
